John and Donna Pearson, grandparents of Ralston Valley High School graduate and fallen U.S. Marine Lance Corporal Brandon Pearson, pose with “Oath Has No Expiration Date” artwork gifted them at a ceremony honoring their son’s sacrifice. Pictured with them is Ralston Valley High School Principal Gavin Goodrich.

Ralston Valley High School paused to remember 2007 graduate and fallen Marine Lance Cpl. Brandon Pearson, who died in 2010 while serving his second tour in Afghanistan.

“What was in my heart was to give recognition to Brandon Pearson and his family. I don’t recall – or nobody told me – that they had a memorial service for him at the school,” explained Ralston Valley High School Principal Gavin Goodrich. “I thought this was a great opportunity to recognize him and recognize all of our fallen soldiers.”

The ceremony was organized with the help of the non-profit Fallen Heroes Honored.

“It was very nice to see how many people came out and remembered Brandon…It was nice to see he’s remembered here,” said Brandon’s grandfather, John Pearson.

Brandon joined the Marines right after graduating from Ralston Valley.

“He really enjoyed going to school here…I think it’s nice that they did this in his memory,” said his grandmother, Donna Pearson.

A special plaque in Brandon’s honor will be installed at the high school to give students the opportunity to learn about his story and his sacrifice. In addition, Fallen Heroes Honored is creating a “License 4 Freedom Wall” made from personalized license plates the group has crafted, in memory of each fallen service member they’ve recognized, including Brandon.
