Students at Prospect Valley elementary take a fashion cue from the world of Willy Wonka as part of their “Candyland” school dance.
Prospect Valley Elementary transformed into a life-size Candyland for its back-to-school dance. Students received golden ticket invitations, à la Willy Wonka, for this night in a whimsical world of candy and fun.
“This is a tradition here, at Prospect Valley. Kids love to dance, the moms love to decorate, and I love to be here,” said Principal Mike Collins.
Prospect Valley parent, and “Candyland” co-chair, Amie Morozs’ party-planning background helped this sweet theme come to life.
“I owned a party planning business here in Denver for 15 years, and I have to do something creative,” Morozs explained. “They found out I did that, and invited me to do these school dances.”
Giant lollypops lined the sidewalk, and other colorful candy decorations greeted students as they entered the building.
“We love this school, so whatever we can do to bring the kids together to have a good time, that’s what we’re doing,” said Prospect Valley parent and co-chair Monica Shanley.
The Candyland theme continued inside with giant candy decorations filling the gymnasium, where kids gobbled up sweet treats and danced off their sugar rushes. Students, parents, and staff also dressed up in bright and creative candy-themed costumes.
“They get to come to the school dance, and it’s just magical for them. That’s the best part, that’s the reason why we do this,” said Morozs.
A photo booth with props also was on hand to capture the great time had by all.
“It fills our hearts with love. This is what the school’s about,” said Shanley.
