Ninja Warrior Day

The wide smiles and high fives said it all. The latest in a series of events hosted by Jeffco’s Adapted Physical Education Department, gave dozens of Jeffco students with disabilities the chance to maneuver through a tricky obstacle course. Organizers borrowed elements from NBC’s reality competition “American Ninja Warrior” for the event, which played out at the Gold Crown Field House in Lakewood.

Students zig-zagged their way through cones, climbed a barrier, dashed across a series of inclines and then ducked beneath a mini-forest of dangling balls before making their way through a low canopy and then on to the finish.

The day was designed to give the students some of the same athletic challenges offered through Jeffco’s general physical education curriculum. Jeffco Adapted Athletics partnered with the National Sports Center for the Disabled to present Ninja Warrior Day.

Multiple sessions were held, each for a different group of Jeffco schools. Challenge teachers and fellow classmates cheered the students on as they each tackled obstacles like true ninja warriors.

“What a great day for the students to showcase their abilities, confidence, and courage,” said Bryan Wickoren, Jeffco’s District Adapted Physical Education Coordinator.

The next planned event is Volleyball Day In Jeffco at the Gold Crown Field House on December 3.
