Lakewood High School takes its sprawling 2015 homecoming celebration outside the school, making it part carnival, part food fair, part car show and all fun.
It was a sea of orange and black at Lakewood High School, as students and staff celebrated homecoming outside on a beautiful fall day.
“Nobody does spirit like Lakewood High School. It is so fun here. Homecoming is the biggest beginning to the year. Kids are excited, orange and black everywhere,” said Lakewood High School Principal Lisa Ritchey.
There were plenty of fun activities. Teachers volunteered for a dunk tank, and students braved wooden stocks while water balloons were thrown at them (all in good fun, of course). There were also food and drink stands, and even some classic cars for staff and students to check out.
“We’re having this nice little homecoming celebration today. Selling lots of food and really just having a good time, enjoying being outdoors, and enjoying this beautiful weather,” said science teacher Marc Gray.
Students sold pop, nachos, cookies, and other sweet treats to raise money for various Lakewood High club programs, including the Anime Club, which had a table staffed by students dressed as their favorite anime characters.
“We’re making lots of money, feeding lots of kids,” explained Ritchey. “May not be perfectly healthy today, but that’s okay.”
Potentially unhealthy snacks aside, everyone had a great time and celebrated their school and their community.
“It really makes me happy because everybody’s crazy with you. It doesn’t matter if you’re silly, it’s just a lot of fun,” said freshman Fatima Meza.
